A HARMONIOUS DIGITAL ENVIROMENT IS IMPORTANT

Working online certainly has its benefits. For one, your work attire can be elasticated pants and a comfy t-shirt, unless you are scheduled to attend a video meeting, in which case comfy pants are still a go and you would only need to wear a work-style blouse.

Let’s examine working remotely first. If you work for a small company, then you’re probably able to function as normal without too many consequences, but when you work for a large company (depending on the work culture), there could be unexpected consequences such as feeling disconnected, becoming unsure of your position, and possibly experiencing a general sense of feeling anxious. As we begin to return to normal after COVID & after numerous lockdowns more companies expect their workforce to return to daily office routines. This means we have to acclimate again.

So you’re back at the office, but you forgot how painful it was to listen to Karen talk about herself endlessly and aggressively attack each staff member, or how bad the coffee was, or fight about the aircon temperature setting. To top it off, a global phenomenon has been recorded as it’s been found that as a populace, many humans are experiencing symptoms of cognitive dysfunction, which people call “brain fog”.

Interestingly, social media usage went up when covid hit. Statistics taken in America show there was a significant increase in the average time U.S. users spent on social media in 2020: 65 minutes daily, compared to 54 minutes and 56 minutes the years before. The amount of time spent on social networking is expected to remain stable in the upcoming years.

We love happy workspaces! We will miss our pets! And the luxuries we got to enjoy at home.

We’re linked so intimately online. Social media allows you to see your friends and family’s daily life activities, milestones, birthdays, political viewpoints, and more. We shop online. We stalk online. We rate each other online. We browse for opportunities. It’s not surprising that many social media users are addicted and experience physical symptoms of withdrawal when they are not able to access the internet to log in to their favorite social media platform.

Whether you’re a fan or not, whether you post frequently or choose privacy over social sharing, our digital way of living is here to stay. Embrace it! Follow and accept followers as you would in real life. If they are not to your taste, delete, remove, unfriend, unfollow or block. Life is too short to waste on bad vibes.

If you’ve loved working from home, and returned to work back at an office: I hope that your work space matches your dream space. Work, home, digital – it should all feel safe.

Happy long weekend!
